Events

CSEF plays a pivotal role in the coordination and management of LASER (Learning About Safety by Experiencing Risk) events. The events help to encourage independent thinking and create responsible individuals who understand the consequences of their behaviour.

A focal point for all our events is evaluating their impact. We see this as essential in order to do what we do effectively and more importantly, meaningfully. Our evaluation gauges how much young people understand various situations and consequences before and after, and demonstrates how receptive they have been to their learning experience.

Crucial Crew

Over 10,000 children pass through our multi-agency Crucial Crew events each year, learning valuable life skills in preparation for the migration from primary school to secondary school.

The Crucial Crew initiative involves impactful and interactive workshops from the emergency services and local agencies. Students are taught children about important issues that are often overlooked by the curriculum, such as basic first aid, road safety, anti-social behaviour and fire safety.

During the ‘hands on’ events, children are encouraged to think about their life choices and to take responsibility for their actions. They have the unique opportunity to learn valuable skills from the professionals, through practical demonstrations and discussions in real life situations.

Junior Citizen

In London, CSEF jointly coordinates the Junior Citizen interactive educational workshops with the Metropolitan Police which are attended by over 50,000 children from 600 schools across the city.

Aimed at children who are about to leave primary school, the programme involves interactive sessions, delivered by professionals from agencies such as the London Fire Brigade, London Ambulance Service, London Transport and London Underground.

During the events, children are encouraged to think about their life choices and to take responsibility for their actions. They have the unique opportunity to learn valuable skills by people who have direct experience in their areas, through practical demonstrations and discussions in real life situations.

To support the Junior Citizen programme, we have launched a digital version of Junior Citizen, Junior Citizen Online. By using the latest in digital technology, this unique learning experience is available to every school in the UK, removing any geographic barriers that previously existed when delivering events and initiatives like this to a wider audience.

Theatre Projects

CSEF works in partnership with a wide range of organisations including Safer Schools Teams to deliver theatre projects that explore issues relating to crime, anti-social behaviour and citizenship.

The projects consist of hard hitting theatrical presentations that look at the impact of criminal and anti-social behaviour and the possible consequences. After the performances, pupils take part in interactive workshops involving discussion, exercises, simulation and improvisation. Overall, the events encourage children to think about their life choices take responsibility for their actions.
